  1. I know this comments is about 9 months too late, but there must be others who, like me, are just now beginning to listen to the podcasts. Anyhow…

Shamanic journeying is new to me. So I decided to pony up $9 to get a good drumming recording; one that was just pure rythmic drumming, and 30 minutes long. That was a worthwhile investment of $9, I think.

First time I tried this the results were “interesting”. I got the impression that there were a few men watching from the darkness to see what I would do; how I would conduct myself. Every once in awhile one would make themselves semi-“visible” in a psyllocibin-like way, but none came very close and for the most part I only had a perception of being watched … Not in a sinister way, but in a “Is this guy serious” kind of way.

Not exactly a big bonfire on the beach with 100 welcoming gay men dancing round it, but it was something. It was less “friendly/welcoming” then I’d hoped for, and not half so profound visually or aurally … much more subtle. Still, I really did feel like I was awaking from a deep trance when I started stirring around.

Tried it a couple of times since, with just about zero results. Guess I just couldn’t relax enough the next time, and the last time, I was beginning to get into it when one of our dogs came and whined at me until I took her outside.

Tempting, sort of, to go negative on this and start wondering: “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t the gay ancestors like me?” That internal record plays so easily for many gay men, and it certainly does for me.

But I WANT to pursue this path if it CAN work, and I NEED it to become real for me. SO, despite early results of “interesting”, “disappointing”, and “Sylvia (the dog), leave me alone for awhile”, I’ll keep at it until is DOES work, or until it proves not to be the right way for me.

Recent dreams, prior to discovering the Unnamed Path web site, tell me that I need to look to my ancestors, so maybe eventually I’ll get the hang of it … whatever “it” turns out to mean.

  2. Hello MauiAceOne,

Shamanic Journeywork is a spiritual technique that takes a lot of practice. Consistency in application and setting up your space before hand are good ways to make sure that you get better and better at the practice. In order to facilitate the best experience for you, I would recommend listening to the podcast on The Shamanic Journey, on Guides and Totem Animals and on Personal Spiritual Practice. Those three will help you in setting up a regular system for you to get into the groove of the shamanic journey and hopefully you’ll get better results.

It is definitely a different process than conventional meditation techniques, but it has very good rewards in terms of spiritual experiences you’ll have and connections you’ll make.

As for the Ancestors of Men-who-love-men, it isn’t usual for them to come right out and speak to people on their first shamanic journey. Usually they will do as you described – observe and see if you’re serious about this practice. They tend to hang back until you have your own guides in place, and have mastered your techniques for journeying, then they’ll make their presence known in your journeys when you’re ready for it. I didn’t get to hear from them until I was journeying every other week for a year steadily.

I tend to have better results journeying to the underworld and meeting the Ancestors of MWLM at night, as well.

Best of luck and many blessings,
    Hyperion
